Embassy of the United States – Santiago, Chile
High school Chilean students José Rocha, Catterina Díaz, Tamara Covacevich, and Alvaro Gómez from the cities of Copiapó, Concepción, Punta Arenas and Rancagua respectively, will participate in the National Youth Science Camp (NYSC) in West Virginia from June 30 through July 24.
The four teenagers, two juniors and two seniors, were invited to the Embassy in Santiago to meet with students who participated in the camps in 2008 and 2009. Chargé D’Affaires a.i. James L. (Buddy) Williams and other mission officials saw them off. This will be the fourth time that Chilean students have participated in this competitive program.
Rocha, Diaz, Covacevick and Gomez were chosen from among 325 applicants. Their outstanding academic achievements – an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher – a genuine interest in science and research, leadership skills, and English proficiency earned them all-expenses-paid scholarships to the camp.
