Today we have one of the earliest recognitions of the importance of the National Youth Science Camp. This document is a copy from the U.S. Senate Record – the official document that traces all business conducted within the Senate. Senator Randolph mentions the history, background and successes of NYSC, and inserts into the official record the remarks delivered by Senator Byrd at the opening ceremonies of NYSC 1965. Senator Byrd is quoted as saying to the delegation, “I am confident that if you are diligent and alert, you young students will emerge as leaders in your scientific fields and will have myriad opportunities to answer fully and constructively the challenges which our American society will pose to our scientific community.”
From the Archives is a reoccurring post that dives back into the archives of National Youth Science Foundation programs.
