Tucker County, West Virginia – In response to the need for support as virtual learning continues in West Virginia, TheNational Youth Science Foundation announces the opening of a Learning Lab. The Learning Lab will take place at the National Youth Science Center (NYSCenter), with accommodations for sixteen students to utilize distanced workspaces with broadband internet connection and lab space. The NYSCenter is a Silver Level LEEDTM Certified, $10 million, 150-acre campus near the Little Canaan Wildlife Management Area and the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge.
“This lab space will help support students in Tucker County and surrounding counties by providing a secure space for completing schoolwork. As the ongoing effects of COVID-19 continue to impact our community, it is vital that students get the support they need during these unprecedented times. We are here to support students in their need for virtual learning in whatever way possible,” stated Ike Kahler, Director of the NYSCenter.
With COVID-19 precautions in place, the Learning Lab will begin with weekly openings on Tuesday and Thursday from 5pm to 8pm. Hours of operation will remain flexible to respond quickly to the changing needs of the community. In addition to the physical workspace, this programming will provide adult supervision and qualified education assistance for all students participating in the Learning Lab.
