Mr. Thomas Needles McJunkin died at his home in Charleston on October 8, 2011, after a four-year battle with cancer. He was 62. Passionately interested in youth and education, he had been a NYSF trustee for 20 years. He wrote last year, “If the business community fails to become actively involved to help public education succeed, in less than two decades the American economy will run out of its most essential energy source–human energy.”
McJunkin served as General Counsel and then President of Amherst Coal Company. Following the sale of Amherst in 1981, he joined the Commercial Law Group at Jackson Kelly, where he remained until his death. He has been listed in Woodward/White’s Best Lawyers in America for Natural Resource Law since 1995.
